Light and Fire in today’s first emails!

What a ‘coincidental’ surprise on booting up my PC this morning and downloading overnight emails. I noted these two from opposite sides of ‘the pond’ at the top of the listing.:

MY LIGHT IS RUSHING IN

I hear the Spirit of God say,

Sunburst ID-100214128“Do not allow worry about the current waves of darkness and despair that you see washing over the shores of the earth to consume you and drag you into that despair. Do not become anxious about the depth of darkness and demonic activity that you see where you go. Rather, believe my Word and see that darkness is an optimum condition for a bright move of my Spirit. Despair invites my reformation. Sickness invites my renewal. Lack invites my abundance.

“See that I choose to move in the darkest places for that is where I am seen the most. Just as a lamp in a bright room has less effect than in a dark room, so me and my people will be seen as I begin to rise upon my children and release new waves of my glory and new measures of my goodness.

“I will be your pillar of fire in the night and I will be your pillar of cloud in the day as I begin to turn up in seen and visible ways. I am not tiptoeing in through the back door in this season but I am rushing in and sweeping through in a way that will be noticed as I reveal more of who I am.

“Do not despair in this season of darkness, for I am coming and the darker the room, the brighter the light. See from my perspective as Heaven rejoices in preparation for a move of my Spirit.”

Isaiah 60:1-3
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

ENGLAND ABLAZE – updated

I saw a vision of the country of England as I was driving today, August 16th 2015.  What I saw was a topographical map of England. In what looked like the uppermost right hand corner of the country I saw a small fire begin. What came to mind here is what the Lord told me a while ago which was don’t despise small beginnings.  I saw a mouth blow on the small flame and the flame grew to a fire and the fire eventually engulfed the whole of England.

Along with this vision I saw a country (ies) in the same way I saw England which was a topographical map. I saw deep cracks which I saw as division in the Land and got the sense that healing will be forthcoming as well of these lands. The lands were related to England.

(Update) This morning August 17th, am adding to the vision I saw yesterday. In today’s vision I saw many, many row boats – note that I said row boats and not ocean liners – leaving the shores of England for other parts of the world. Each of the boats had a small crew and I only saw one person rowing (ie. leaving as evangelists TP).

Prophetic word for USA: lost loved ones to return ‘home’ to the Lord

‘ On the third day…’

Jesus at Door – credit Del Parson

A triplet of ‘coincidental’ prophetic words occurred on three successive days last week – on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  I regard such events as unquestionably clear-cut actions by the Lord (ie. ‘God-incidents’; learn more here).

It’s as though He’s standing at the door knocking with a with rapid knock-knock-knock to get our attention.

1st knock, Thursday 13th – I read an email of words brought by Val Williams and Aliss Creswell but as I intended blogging a two-part item, I acknowledged and popped them into ‘pending’. BUT when finishing for the day I decided to copy and paste content and schedule for publication the next day.

AND that evening I called my son about visiting him and his family for the first time this year. Also, I wanted to ask about taking my 11 years old grandson out for a day. I was amazed at my son’s suggestion that he join us and we three go together – nothing like that has ever happened – praise the Lord!

(My wife and I didn’t get to see the inspiring video by Aliss until the weekend – if you haven’t seen it I recommend your arranging 20 minutes to do so.)

2nd knock, Friday 14th – the morning saw the auto-publication of those words, which inspired a couple of readers, of whom Lynne at Father’s House of Prayer I thank for:

3rd knock, Saturday 15th – prophet-psalmist Kim Clement emailed this to FHP:

“During my search for God’s will in my prayer garden this morning, the story of the prodigal son came to me by the Spirit. These words were impressed on my heart,

“For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”

“As I heard this, the Spirit of God showed me multiple things that He intends to do, starting this weekend.

America-Israel Restoration:

“Regarding the backslidden state of our leaders in Washington, DC, I was led by the Holy Spirit to immediately act this weekend and get our team in Israel and in the USA to position themselves with YOU as we prophesy, proclaim, pray, and bless together. God showed me that something would begin to shift and He would release us from a certain judgment for the way our leadership has treated Israel. However, it would require a mass of people who have faith and prophetic perception to stand together. He chose us.

You and Your House:

“A deep compassion rose from within me and I began weeping as I heard the heart of God towards you and me, and our loved ones. An anointing has been released as a result of this revelation for many of your ‘dead’ and lost loved ones to return ‘home’ to God.

Kim’s delivery of the last two paragraphs may be seen on this video link starting at 48 minutes of Prophetic Alert…August 15th 2015. Prior to sitting at the piano and after worship at his keyboard, he brought a word concerning Saudi Arabia’s new king, Iran and ‘spiritual leprosy’ coming out of America’s dealings, which only the Lord Jesus can change – and “He will…”!

Prophetic word for UK: the Lord is gathering in the lost ones

Thank you to Suzanne Payne for this word brought by her friend Val Williams on 8th August and published with permission AND see Fulfilled prophecies (& answered prayers) 6: families/return of prodigals.:

I am moving across this land. I am gathering in as the shepherd of My sheep, and I’’m seeking those who’’ve been lost, I am seeking the sons, I am seeking the daughters, I am seeking the brothers, I am seeking the sisters.

I am seeking family, says the Lord, and I am gathering, I am bringing them back. Particularly those of My children, says the Lord. I am seeking them, I am searching them out, says the Lord.

I am gathering families, I am bringing unity and reconciliation across this nation into family. I am gathering the families back so that they can be one again.

It’’s not by might, it’’s not by power, it’’s by My Spirit, says the Lord. I will set an ambush for the enemies that have taken your loved ones captive. I am doing a deep work throughout this nation. I am bringing them, says the Lord, I will bring them in in ones and two’’s and threes and fives. I’’m bringing them in. This is the time of destinies to come forth.

I’’m gathering My children. I’’m gathering the lost ones. I’’m gathering them to Myself. I’’m bringing them through the cross. They come broken, crushed says the Lord. They’’ve had a hard time, satan is a hard taskmaster, but they’’re coming back, they’’re coming back. This is a time of celebration, says the Lord. Start to worship and celebrate over your lost ones because they are found. For I am the Good Shepherd and I seek for My lost sheep, the lost sheep are coming home. Worship with glorious joy in your hearts, for I am on the move, says the Lord. I am on the move. I have stood up, and I am on the move.

Amen. may it be so Lord.

Aliss Cresswell issued a similiar word on 7th August on her Facebook page, saying that week the Lord had been showing her that it’s time for our loved ones to know Him and be walking in all He has for them:

Aliss posts this covering comment:

“This week the Lord showed me that it’s time for our loved ones to know Him and be walking in all He has for them. I put out this video yesterday where I demonstrate how to release salvation, healing and deliverance for your family and show some recent video of family miracles and reconciliation that will really encourage you to keep contending. I also pray for your loved ones on the video too. “As for me and my family we will serve the Lord!” Joshua 24:15 Watch the video and let me know what happens!”

Jigsaw Time – Part 2: Charles Shamp prophetic word for 2015-20

DEncounters_image

Credit: Destiny Encounters – Prophet’s Loft

Note: As with all prophetical material this is offered for weighing for alignment with holy scripture and for waiting upon the Lord.

I first read this mightily encouraging word brought by Charles Shamp after his meeting held in Guildford over the Passover-Easter weekend. It was my intention to provide a brief summary of a few points of personal interest and link into this published word. But delays arose and then a few pieces of a jigsaw puzzle came together, as told in Part 1.

The word comes in three parts of which two cover medical/technological developments in certain nations and the possibility of natural disasters. The first and main part is for The Church and has a double aspect: The Year of the Epikaizo (Overshadowing) and its effect upon increasing seer anointing, culminating on 28th September on Sukkot, the Jewish Feast of Booths or Tabernacles.

PROPHETIC PRAYER POINTS FOR 2015-2020 (click to read in full):

Epikaizo, or the Overshadowing, from Jan to Sept 28 blood moon.

“The word Epikaizo in all is the manifestation of God’s power where the natural laws are cancelled out in obedience to God who is a Spirit. The EPIKAIZO carries the eternal manifestation of heaven that is revealed at a place or upon someone. This is what days of heaven on earth truly looks like. A place of multiplied miracles and heavenly harvest. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord swore unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.”  (Deuteronomy‬ ‭11‬:‭21‬ KJV)

Seer Anointing Intensifies in 2015

“The Lord spoke to me and said that this will be a year that the seers are coming into their multi-dimensional sight. A new realm of the prophetic will be birthed this year. In January many prophetic people will enter into a season of incubation for greater manifestation. The Lord showed me that from January to September will be a time of preparation for what is going to be birthed towards the end of September after the final blood moon on the 28th of that month. Many have seen the blood moons as a sign of judgement, but both the book of Joel and Acts interpret the moon turning to blood as a wonder in the heavens to reveal a greater power of God on the earth, The Army of The Lord. This nine month period will be a time for…” (continued here with the full prophecy).

Noticeably, this word goes on to say, “What we will begin to understand in a great way in 2015 is that peace is the cradle that holds prophetic power…”, thus synchronizing with and emphasising a new ‘piece’ in the puzzle: Blessed are the Peacemakers by Joanne Rolston. (Published today, and note the double-pun of ‘piece’ and ‘peace’!)

I recall hearing Charlie tell how the concept of overshadowing is based upon Genesis 1:1-3,

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. (NIV)

His explanation of this ‘brooding’ of Holy Spirit is very interesting for he thinks that when the Almighty saw His reflection, He perceived a place where His glory could dwell. So the Creator went into action and created light in the heavens and life on earth.

Thus, the more we let the Spirit within us manifest Jesus to others, then Father will see His reflection and pour out His nature and glory upon us all.

Lord let that be so…

Jigsaw Time – Part 1: Cahn, Shamp and a prophetic word for 2015

Puzzle Globe and Book by ThanunkornYet once again personal events related to this blog are fitting like pieces of an invisible jigsaw puzzle brought by folk I know or meet online. Also, timing is not ‘coincidental’ but it highlights the merging information as well as insights that flash when falling into place.

The invisible designs they reveal amass in a treasury of tangible signs that could point to bigger ones for Jesus’ return. (To read more about this blog’s regular feature see below.)

My purpose in presenting these ‘pieces’ is not only to share my ruminations but also to consider if, and where, the Lord may be leading me,

Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7 NIV)

Some of the ‘pieces’ appeared recently in this blog; the others I’m ‘brooding’ over before inserting into the puzzle.

So for this particular ‘jigsaw puzzle’ let me lay down the board: a request to Church of His Presence in Alabama to archive a one-off, mid-week evening session. This is so that overseas e-members, whose time zone makes it difficult to watch it live, can catch up with this special event.

Teamwork by Franky242

Then, the following jigsaw ‘pieces’ may be brought and displayed:

  1. Pastor John Michael Kilpatrick enables the event to be archived.
  2. Jonathan Cahn reports on developments in this ‘Shemitah year’.
  3. Fellow blogger Joanne Rolston brings another aspect in Days of Awe.
  4. Meanwhile, I’m writing on Charles Shamp – A Vision: sowing into the Kingdom.
  5. I comment on Jo’s thread about Charlie and another contributor adds a reference to the prophetic word he brought for 2015, for which I then add a link.
  6. Whilst I’m preparing to blog about the Iranian deal in connection with Ezekiel 38, fellow blogger Korey Allen opens a debate on the identity of Gog-Magog. SO,
  7. I check out some in-depth analyses from both sides of the discussion on Russia and Iran, and
  8. Revisit my original extra-Biblical 1980s source to reconsider its information in the light of this debate, especially on the unexpected militant advance of Islam.

The ‘design’ showing on the last three ‘pieces’ relates to the recent P5+1 accord with Iran on its nuclear programme, which I’ve been ‘brooding’ upon in connection with the prophecies. (I hope to blog on this very soon as ‘Prophetic, Historic Days – Part 3’.)

In Part 2 of this post we will look at the 5th ‘piece’; prophetic prayer points for this year published on New Year’s Day and which especially focus upon this September.

A vision: sowing into the Kingdom of God

Charlie ShampEyeballing me as he speaks, I’m not fully attentive for I’m transfixed by an open vision right in front of me.

What I see swirling around Charles Shamp reminds me of those toy snow-scenes popular at Christmas. Also, perhaps you’ve seen how the wind can pick up and carry things away  – like a ‘dust devil’ or tornado starting up – yet this one wasn’t going anywhere.

But this wind doesn’t bring invisible snow or dust: just money!that is, currency notes – lots and lots of them!  The space between us has become a blue-grey misty haze with the notes ‘swimming’ around him. Apparently, Charlie doesn’t see them for, although he may refer to something he senses during a meeting, this time he carries on speaking to everyone but I’m not listening as keenly as usual.

Charlie had started as we sat down after worship at the Passover-Easter meeting. Yet I remained standing, not so much out of politeness as he was looking at me, but because of what I could see in the spirit.

It was another of those times I’ve mentioned earlier: Charlie looks at someone and keeps eye contact for a minute or so as he teaches. Every time that’s happened to me, he said something that resonated on something with which I was very well acquainted. It’s not like a prophecy being delivered, yet it must be related to that because what’s said is relevant and increases my understanding – ie. they’re words of knowledge, wisdom and revelation.

This time what he says connects not only right into my experience as a bank officer but also into the open vision!  He tells everyone about the value of sowing into a ministry and makes an unusual analogy that I’d not heard before from any preacher.:

Charlie is of the opinion that financial sowing is similar to lending money. (The normal approach is that, like any offering, sowing into a Christian ministry is donating to the Lord’s purposes and we’re paying back a little of everything we owe Him. I recall, “God is a debtor to no-one”, as He told Job and summarised by Max Lucado in God Owes Nothing.)

However, Charlie is saying – whilst I watch the money swimming around in the six feet separating us, “Consider what a banker does when offering a loan: he sets the terms to our taking the loan and expects it to be repaid”. So too, we may legitimately expect a payback when sowing by reaping some of the fruit that manifests. Moreover, we may remind the Lord.

This new concept of being a banker ‘setting terms for our sowing’ catches my attention because it’s about something with which I was familiar as a bank officer – but not what we’d associate with giving to the Lord.

Also during that session, I recalled what I’ve long known of the promise about the only test we may make of God. And He allows this ‘test’ to emphasise He’s providing a way to enable His people to answer His righteous complaint against their robbing Him! It is the foundation for all tithes and offerings:

“Test me in this”, says the Lord Almighty, “And see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it…”. (Malachi 3:10 NIV)

So I must seek the Lord on Charlie’s claim and check it against scripture. Upon doing so early the next morning Lord directs me to an appropriate scripture (see Note 1 below).

I’m reminded of the parable of talents (Matt 25:14-30) wherein Jesus instructs disciples to put what God gives us to wise use and multiply it.

Although applicable to all gifts He gives us, this parable’s focus upon money supports Charlie’s claim that, in donating funds to what the Lord is doing, we may expect and are promised a reward. Furthermore, as God’s children there’s no reason for not discussing this further with Father and in being quite specific in our requests.

NOTES:

  1. Updated in Revisiting ‘Sowing into the Kingdom’ – re. ‘loaning’ to the Lord
  2. In closing this descriptive account, I’d add that last Sunday pastor Kilpatrick reminded the congregation at CHP about “Sowing into the atmosphere“, especially for prophetical speakers. So, I’ve unexpectedly gone full circle on the post that recommended watching Jonathan Cahn and Bill Salus!

Days of Awe

Excellent timing to follow-up my last post’s remarks on Jonathan Cahn! Thank you Jo.

LeoPeople don’t need to be believers to see that the Jewish festivals and calendar days instituted thousands of years ago, are now aligning with the signs in the sky, and major world events.

In my last post I said I’d explain how God is speaking to those who haven’t read the Bible.  One of the ways he is speaking is by using signs in the heavens.  I’m not talking about Astrology. But if I was, I’d point out that Astrology is made up of these two words: Astro meaning “Star” and Logos meaning Jesus Christ, the Word, the Logos of God.

The devil has covered the witness of the stars with occult graffiti, but he can’t forever.  The truth is right there in our night sky, for all to see.  God is using signs in the sun, moon and stars for warning, prophecy and to show that He is in…

Recommended viewing: Jonathan Cahn & Bill Salus

JCahn_BSalus_safe_imageA week ago tonight Messianic rabbi Jonathan Cahn was the guest speaker at a specially convened service at Church of His Presence. The guest for last Sunday’s service was his friend Bill Salus, author on Bible End-times prophecies.

I recommend both archived services to readers of this blog. First, however, you may like a brief outline:

Jonathan Cahn

Renowned for his ‘factioHarbingernal’ novel The Harbinger, which is based upon Isaiah 9:10, Jonathan updated everyone on events since its publication and my report of last year, all of which strengthens the validity of his theories. Anyone unfamiliar with his thesis will find his recent message a helpful summary, and learn its inception as well as dissemination was of the Lord.

Regarding the Shemitah, Jonathan gives a caveat about being dogmatic on what may or may not happen because, “When you put God in a box He has a habit of getting out!”  God doesn’t have to do anything we think or want, but He could bring about what may be expected at the end of the Shemitah year 5775 on Ehud 29, the last day in the Jewish civil year and eve of Rosh Hashanah (13th September).

Although the most dramatic effects would be at and around the close of this Shemitah year there were fore-shadowings at the beginning of the year. So Jonathan recounted significant events of September/October 2014 and noted the news about plague and an earthquake in the USA on this year’s opening day, as well as an economic shaking and loss of America’s crown to Russia – plus two Biblical signs relating to famine!

“The Shemitah causes the worldly realm to fall and to lift up the sovereignty of God in all things…the changing of world history…

“You want to live in Biblical times – you’ve got it! Welcome to the End-times…”

His focus then moved to America’s double desecration of God’s covenants in Genesis – those of matrimony and of the rainbow. Thus, he declares, “The writing is on the wall” in respect of national defiance against God and rejecting His grace and mercy. In addition to quoting from Daniel, Jonathan refers to the vision in Ezekiel 8 of the abominations in the Temple and relates those desecrations – and the timing of the nuclear deal with Iran (as blogged herein) – to Biblical events on the current Jewish calendar.

Therefore, he is of the opinion a great economic shaking is coming to America and to the world – and it may involve other realms too.

Jonathan covers a lot of exceptionally informative material in 96 minutes. He inspires us with the fact that the potential for national revival is greatest in the midst of judgmental shakings. Thus, we’re encouraged to become consecrated vessels as well as radical disciples. He closes with the very powerful Aaronic blessing in Hebrew.

Bill Salus

BSalus_lopb1vo_1Bill spoke on preparing for the coming fulfillment of prophecies and opened by pointing out,

“The number one sign of the End-times is: they’re all converging!”

In asking where are we on God’s timeline, Bill gave a good introduction to prophecies applicable today, especially Ezekiel 38, Psalm 83 and Jeremiah 49.

Bill’s analysis of events in the Middle-East included many helpful illustrations, especially with regards to Syria, Isil and Iran which, he says, is in double jeopardy because God is furious over their activity. In expanding upon this, he spoke knowledgeably about the rapidly rising number of Christians in Iran.

I was particularly interested in his explanation of the USA’s connection with events through Ezekiel 38:13 – the merchants of Tarsish and its young lions, as meaning Britain and our colonial lands. In all my reading I haven’t read anything else on this in 30 years other than in the very first ‘non-Christian’ book I read on Bible prophecy – The Invisible Hand! (See Welcome and ‘Personal Connection’ in Prophetic, Historic Days Part 1.)

REQUEST:

“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:40-42 NKJV courtesy BlueLetterBible.com)

So, if we give more than a cold drink to a prophetic disciple of the Lord we may expect to receive some of their reward too. Then let’s give a lot more than the cost of a drink!

Therefore, may I ask you to consider sowing into those ministries by contributing towards CHP’s broadcasting costs as well as their donations to the speakers. If you wish to do so click donations and, after inputting your details, select the Designation ‘Special Offering”.

Why is the Iran nuclear deal so dangerous? Joel Rosenberg’s detailed analysis of the agreement.

Joel RosenbergThank you to Joel for saving me the time of summarising my researches today. My immediate reaction of “Sheer, utter folly” under ‘Nuclear Agreement’ in Review 2, is  supported by his conclusion. Rather than wading through many reviews as I have, Joel directly consulted a number of experts. Yesterday, World Watch Daily reported Obama said, “Whole world has expressed support for Iran deal except for Israeli government” and upon meeting US Jews, “Rockets will fall on Tel Aviv if Congress kills Iran deal”! If the US president were a Bible-believing Christian he would know ALL nations of the world will be judged by the Almighty in relation to Israel (Joel 3). Also, my long-time readers will be aware of the prophecies about Netanyahu being prime minister. AND Obama’s claim about missile attacks upon Tel Aviv is irrelevant, as explained in this Debkafile analysis (emphasis added):

“Obama’s warning to the Jewish leaders does not stand up to the test of logic or reliable intelligence….It is therefore obvious that Israel faces an Iranian-Hizballah missile threat today, as it did yesterday, and probably also tomorrow, regardless of whether the US Congress endorses or throws out President Obama’s nuclear deal with Tehran. He might have made a difference to this grim reality if US negotiators had stipulated that the deal include the lifting of the Iranian missile peril hanging over Israel and that Tehran’s waive its standing threat to destroy the Jewish state. But as things stand now, this particular argument in support of his nuclear deal with Iran is an irrelevancy.”

(Joel’s address last night in Denver would have been illuminating – one of my readers was blessed in being there.)

joelcrosenberg's avatarJoel C. Rosenberg's Blog

iran-nuclear-graphic(Denver, Colorado) — I have finished reading the 159-page Iran nuclear deal, known as the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” (or JCPOA), as well as numerous analyses by various Middle East think tanks, and I’ve consulted with a number of Mideast experts, nuclear experts, and former senior U.S. government officials.

Here’s my conclusion: this deal is insane.

That may not be the most diplomatic way to put it, but I’m afraid that’s the truth.

  • The deal doesn’t live up to the very “red lines” that President Obama and his team set.
  • The deal doesn’t end Iran’s nuclear program — it legalizes, legitimizes, expands it.
  • The deal provides Iran not just one but two paths to The Bomb — in 10 to 15 years if Iran keeps the agreement, and much sooner if Iran cheats.
  • The details inside the deal are absolutely stunning — and catastrophically dangerous for the U.S., Israel and our Sunni Arab neighbors.

ALERT: MP threatens Christian teachers with anti-terror laws

Houses of Parliament: courtesy FreeDigitalPhotos.netIn 2009 the previous director of MI5, Dame Stella Rimington, warned that “Britain is sleepwalking into a police state”.

This fact was one of several to which I referred in my first email alerting church leaders upon biblical End-times: The Endgame is now in play. (Upon checking that material I notice the news report no longer has that phrase, either as a ‘strap-line’ or quotation! But readers’ letters clearly refer to the remark, as here.)

Today’s news features a Member of Parliament threatening the suppression of Godly free-speech in the teaching profession! This MP thinks that new Extremism Disruption Orders “would apply to a situation where a teacher was specifically teaching that gay marriage is wrong.”!

John Bingham reports,

‘Mark Spencer called for those who use their position in the classroom to teach traditionalist views on marriage to be subject to “Extremism Disruption Orders” (EDOs), tough new restrictions planned by David Cameron and Theresa May to curb radicalisation by jihadists.

In a letter to a constituent, Mr Spencer, the MP for Sherwood in Nottinghamshire, insisted that Christian teachers were still “perfectly entitled” to express their views on same-sex marriage – but only “in some situations”.

I strongly recommend my readers carefully consider this development, which is more fully outlined in Archbishop Cranmer’s blog, Anti-Terror Legislation Will Be Used Against Teachers Who Oppose Same-Sex Marriage, of which I quote only a part and with emphases added:

Obeying the law is no longer to be a guarantee of freedom from government surveillance or police harassment.

‘And now Conservative MP Mark Spencer has written to a constituent:

“I believe that everybody in society has a right to free speech and to express their views without fear of persecution. The EDOs will not serve to limit but rather to guarantee it:…(eg) one which lots of constituents have been writing about – talking about gay marriage in schools.

“The new legislation specifically targets hate speech, so teachers will still be free to express their understanding of the term ‘marriage’, and their moral opposition to its use in some situations without breaking the new laws. The EDOs, in this case, would apply to a situation where a teacher was specifically teaching that gay marriage is wrong.”

If that is the understanding on the backbenches of the provisions of the Extremism Bill, we should be fearful – very fearful – of the Government’s intentions. John Bingham’s Telegraph piece quotes Simon Calvert, Deputy Director of the Christian Institute, who says:

“I am genuinely shocked that we have an MP supporting the idea of teachers being branded extremists for teaching that marriage is between a man and a woman. This is exactly the kind of thing we’ve been warning about. The Government says we’ve got nothing to worry about from their new extremism laws, but here is one of its own MPs writing to a constituent saying EDOs would stop teachers teaching mainstream Christian beliefs. EDOs will be a gross infringement of free speech and undermine the very British values they claim to protect.”

‘And Keith Porteous Wood, Executive Director of the National Secular Society:

“If EDOs really could be used to prevent teachers from talking about same-sex marriage, unless they are inciting violence, they are an even greater threat to freedom of expression than I had feared. To suggest that EDOs guarantee freedom of expression (as Mark Spencer suggests) is not just inaccurate, it is the opposite of the truth; they are the largest threat to freedom of expression I have ever seen in Britain.”

The Christian Institute added to this under ‘New Orthodoxy’ by referring to Claire Fox, head of think-tank the Institute of Ideas, who last week ‘accused the Government of using extremism rhetoric to impose a new orthodoxy of thinking.

‘She said: “When you break it down you then see that they’re actually betraying the civil liberties, the rule of law, they’re actually dictating what teachers teach in schools.

“When they say ‘we want to prevent extremism getting out in schools’ it’s so ironic” because “the kind of schools that have been done over are Catholic schools because of, for example, their views on homosexuality”.

‘Fox concluded, “Apparently a British value now is a positive acceptance of what the Government has told you it is”.’

Let us be prepared to stand on the Rock…

“The books are being opened” – come, feast on Father

Feasting on FatherUpon receiving William’s news on Monday I sensed, “The books are being opened”.

It blessed me to learn that he too, like fellow author Neil, had been encouraged by events after my mentioning him in last Thursday’s blog. Both friends had emailed me earlier that week and Bill forwarded an interesting online article that deserved a wider airing.

Last week, I intended blogging about the Iranian nuclear deal but realised it had to be in 3 parts. The first wasn’t thought of until ‘getting out of bed’. What became the second part was meant to lead into a look at questionable details of that deal. That part reveals the synchronicity between the final accord and a highly significant period in the Jewish Calendar. Its cross-posting from Breaking Israeli News had been quickly done but needed a brief introduction on the Thursday before my main task of compiling the substantive ‘stuff’.

However, as told in IF, I hadn’t got out of bed…, I was inspired the previous evening to make a note for beginning the combined material – only to wake up, get waylaid and need to re-jig my plans for blog-day.

As I got diverted into new but directly relevant material, I recalled William Smith is an author too and therefore provided details of his book, ‘Feasting On The Father’. Little did I suspect that another ‘God-incident’ was getting under way!

It was ‘time’ for Revd Bill’s book too, because on Monday he emailed, “I want to say ‘thank you’ for advertising my book afresh…The timing was so incredibly significant to me”. He was visited by a friend who’d read it and believes it’s a vital word for the church today.

Bill remains convinced God had him write it for a needy church and many who agree   it’s an important essential word to the church encouraged him.

Some reviews:

So click on the above image to take a look inside and to get from Amazon, noting this fellow writer’s 5-star review:
“This book comes from a warm place. It is written for Christians but is accessible to all and draws on the simple yet profound symbolism of food and drink. It is a book of praise to God, using rich and often beautiful imagery and language. William Smith encourages Christians to thrive rather than just survive in life. Like any good read it is a book which challenges but is also often comforting. Littered with scripture references this is a book designed to help the reader draw closer to God.”

And another:
“A beautiful book, well written and inspirational, taking the reader on a journey into the depths of the love, grace and provision of a loving Father God to His children. A cracking read!!”

Bestselling and award-winning author Dr Mark Stibbe remarks,
“A stunning piece of work! I am constantly being sent manuscripts, especially by new authors. If I’m brutally honest, many of these offer only scraps of revelation. Just occasionally a book comes my way that offers far more than that – a true feast of Abba’s wisdom and insight. Bill’s book is a great example of this. I unreservedly encourage you to come to the table he has so meticulously and lovingly prepared. Come hungrily and you will not be disappointed. A banquet of brilliance awaits.”

Description:

‘This book is an in-depth Bible study, centred on Song of Solomon chapter 2 and revealing the heart of a loving Father throughout the scriptures. Far from being academic theory, the teaching is a heart-to-heart talk and passionate exploration of how to enjoy God’s intended relationship every moment of our lives.

‘The Bible is essentially a love story – a book that reveals the heart of a Father towards his children. God does not keep his distance from us, nor is it his desire to punish us. On the contrary, his love compelled him to send his only son into an imbalanced world – to suffer in our place, and to bring us back to the Father as royal sons. Now, we are welcome to the table of the King of Kings…

‘The truths explained in this book have the power to change your life. Once you have feasted on the Father, you will not want to look back.’

Personal note:

One Saturday morning several years ago Nina and I took a quick drive to a meeting in Portsmouth convened by a couple we knew connected to Toronto Airport Fellowship. At the first coffee break a couple joined us at our table and got chatting.

Sharing a connection with the Gathering Place, Blandford, opened up conversation and  ‘Revd Bill’ and I have since kept in touch. He’s a most encouraging supporter of my efforts at keeping the church informed and I’ve quoted him on several occasions.

SO Bill, this is to acknowledge your long-standing, unstinting support with immense gratitude.

IF, I hadn’t got out of bed…

…last Thursday and got waylaid, then all this wouldn’t be in my head.:

IF – I’d not changed ‘tack’ in that day’s blogging, two ladies 25 miles away wouldn’t find something in common at the day’s end.
IF – on going to bed the previous night I hadn’t jotted words to start the ‘morrow’s blog, I wouldn’t have been so amazed the next day.
IF – upon waking I hadn’t realised that opening note needed new introductory material for the planned blog, and…
IF – a friend had not emailed me a couple of days ago, then I wouldn’t already have the background material to hand. However,
IF – his material had a brief summary too, then I’d have the necessary introduction.
IF – he’d not emailed that missing material as I was starting the day, then my originally planned blog would be very delayed.
IF – he and I had not kept in contact, then I wouldn’t have changed my planned post to one about a book.
IF – I’d not posted that unplanned blog, then a certain subscriber wouldn’t have told their family about the book.
IF – things had not happened and I’d not made certain choices last Thursday, then the book’s author, Neil Mackereth, wouldn’t have responded the next day with news of an amazing ‘coincidence’!!

So what happened?

SignsOn closing down for the evening I let Neil know a reader had notified me they’d ordered a copy of ‘SIGNS’ – on that evening Neil’s wife attended a ladies meeting at a Winvin (Winchester Vineyard church) member’s house.

One lady told her that her mother up in the Midlands had just texted to ask if she was aware that a member of Winvin had written a book called ‘SIGNS’?  “No” was daughter’s reply –and that set the conversation going!  The mother is the one who’d read my post and ordered Neil’s book!

How often do we think or hear, “If only…then this wouldn’t have happened”? It’s usually in a negative vein regarding unfortunate circumstances.  But it happens positively too – and can be directed by the Lord.  (How often do we realise and appreciate this?)

A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9 NKJV)

AND not once but twice that day – but that’s yet another true story…(next)

Tracing the above connections further we’d find: had we not attended a conference at Winvin many years ago, we wouldn’t have attended occasionally; had we not been aware of what was going on there, we wouldn’t have learned about Neil’s End-times courses; had I not attended them then we wouldn’t have known one another.

It’s well to consider and meditate upon the making of family and friends relationships, connections and events and thank the Lord for them all.

Last Thursday’s events are an excellent example of serendipity with good chains of choices/consequences (I had about 20 which could be drawn like a couple of decision trees in connection with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bells.)  For those timings where the Lord is obviously involved I call them ‘God-incidence’. (For more on this concept click here.)

And as in the hymn penned by William Cowper, “God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform…”.

U.S. officially blocks Christian testimony of Islamist persecution

An article quoted in the previous post on the violent persecution of believers asks, “Is this the end of Christianity in the Middle-East?” In his answer, Joel Rosenberg reminds us of Bible passages foretelling this predicament in the lead-up to the return of Jesus Christ, and the ensuing, extensive evangelisation across that region.

Ray-ibrahimA couple of hours later the Middle-East Forum sent an excerpt from Raymond Ibrahim’s monthly update on the endemic persecution of Christians in Muslim states around the world. As one of the expert sources I introduced in my earliest blogs and have since quoted, his site is featured on my ‘blog-roll’ of Links. Born of Egyptian Coptic parents, Raymond explores the intersection of Christianity and Islam. Author of The Al-Qaeda Reader and of Crucified Again: Exposing Islam’s New War of Christians, he translates pertinent Arabic and Egyptian news that never reaches the West.

Read his full article here about how the U.S. State Department blocked the issue of visas to Christian nuns and leaders from Iraq, Nigeria and Syria thereby preventing their telling America about the violent persecution in those nations by Islamists. Without any shadow of a doubt, this is the fruit of the Obama administration’s anti-Christian bias.

Ever since expressing reservations over Obama’s Cairo Speech to the Muslim world in 2009, and subsequent espousal of the Muslim Brotherhood and appointment of several of it members within his administration, I’ve noticed POTUS’ deep reluctance to stand up for Christians – plus his misunderstanding of the Gospel and scripture, as well as activities contrary to decisions of the Church’s first council in Jerusalem (Acts 15:20).

In that email I queried several times, “If he really were a Christian…”, eg. after quoting his “As a student of history”, I noted: ‘If Obama really were a well-informed Christian and student of history then he would have told the truth about the founding of Israel…’

Six years later, I again refer to Rick Joyner’s Discerning the Times, the prophetic validity of which will be recognised by those in the real church of Jesus Christ:

This new unity in the church is being driven because of foreboding created by the demeanor and laws being passed by the Obama Administration, which seem to be specifically designed to open doors for persecuting the church. Even though it is very sad to see this happening in our nation, which was begun and built by those seeking freedom, especially religious freedom, nevertheless these present trends are working to strengthen and galvanize the church like possibly nothing has ever done before. (Emphasis RB)

May the peace of the Lord be with us in these days…

With ISIS on the rampage, “is this the end of Christianity in the Middle East?”

Joel RosenbergIn reviewing NY Times’ article Joel urges believers not to be discouraged but to note what’s happening is as prophesied in scripture. Therefore, we are not at the ‘end of Christianity’ in its heartland. Read also A devilish plot to avoid the ‘Lake of Fire’ and mini-series Global satanic strategy on this blog.

(Denver, Colorado) — In my recent novel, The Third Target, a New York Times reporter  criss-crosses the Middle East, trying to understand and explain to the world the rise of the Islamic State and the objectives of its leaders. Among the questions my fictional character — J.B. Collins — is trying to answer:

  1. Why are ISIS jihadists are so blood-thirsty?
  2. Why do ISIS leaders want to establish an Islamic kingdom or caliphate?
  3. Are ISIS leaders are really serious about slaughtering and/or enslaving all of the Christians of the region, in addition to annihilating Jews and all Muslims who don’t subscribe to their theology or eschatology?

What he discovers is evil beyond his worst nightmares — a Satanic movement determined to rob, kill and destroy everyone in its path, and particularly Christians.

Monday ‘Matins’ – a prayer to kick-start the week

(Author unknown; Lord please bless him/her as well as those in this prayer – including all visitors and regular readers of this blog.)

Dear Lord,

Every single evening, as I’m lying here in bed,

This tiny little prayer keeps running through my head:

God bless all my family – wherever they may be,

Keep them warm and safe from harm, for they’re so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing I wish that you could do;

Hope you don’t mind me asking –

Please bless my computer too.

Now I know that it’s unusual to bless a motherboard,

But listen just a second while I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box holds more than odds and ends;

Inside those small compartments rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them by the kindness that they give,

And this little scrap of metal takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them, much the same as you.

We share in what life brings us and from that, our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute, from your duties up above,

To bless those in my address book, that’s filled with so much love.

Wherever else this prayer may reach, to each and every friend,

Bless each e-mail inbox and each person who hits ‘send’.

When you update your Heavenly List, on your own Great CD-ROM,

Bless everyone who says this prayer, sent up to GOD.Com.

Amen.

Prophetic, Historic Days – Part 2: ‘coincidence’ of Jewish calendar and Iranian nuclear ‘fix’

Detail from Eagle-eyed by John Mark Long: www.propheticartists.com

Thank you to William Smith, teacher, itinerant preacher and author of Feasting on the Father for sending me an exceptionally illuminating article from Breaking Israel News a few days ago.

Cross-posted below, its perspective upon the JCPOA, or ‘fix’ as I term it, is upon the event’s timing in the ancient Hebrew calendar and offers prophetic opinions from a Jewish viewpoint.

I especially notice the first quotation’s remark on the USA’s “commitment to hedonism” because hedonism is an outcome of Humanism, the Fundamental flaw in Western societyOxford English Dictionary defines ‘hedonism’ as ‘the pursuit of pleasure: sensual self-indulgence’. Of Greek origin it also has a philosophical meaning: ‘The ethical theory that pleasure (in the sense of satisfaction of desires) is the highest good and proper aim of human life‘. Thus, it matches the atheistic goal of Humanism which, according to Derek Prince, results in “a complete absence, in fact, of any binding moral code. This left man free to be his own god, and to establish his own moral code”. (See Humanism – Forerunner for Antichrist as quoted herein.)

Appeasement

At the close of his interview of Israeli PM Netanyahu about the ‘Nuclear Deal’, Steve Forbes asked, “Is this like the 1930s?” and received the PM’s response, “No, it’s worse, because we have the example of the 1930s, which wasn’t available then”.

‘Deal’ or ‘Document’?

It is important to note that the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei does not refer to the JCPOA as a ‘Nuclear Deal or Agreement’, as bandied around by Barack Obama. He calls it simply ‘document’, which indicates he doesn’t regard it with any commitment on his part whatsoever! (See BBC Watch translations correcting BBC inaccuracies!) Now for the article from my friend, the original of which may be read by clicking the title. Note ‘coincidental’ calendar timing – especially re. Rosh Hashana and Shemitah year – and conclusion (my emphases added):

HEAVEN’S TIMING AND THE NUCLEAR DEAL WITH IRAN

“Behold a people is coming from the north, and a great nation and great kings shall be aroused from the ends of the earth.” (Jeremiah 50:41)

khamenei-rouhani-iran-twitter

The Iran Nuclear Deal was signed on July 14, 2015 by the P5+1 – a group comprised of representatives of the governments of the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany – and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This date falls during a particularly significant time in the Jewish calendar known as The Three Weeks.

The Three Weeks are a mourning period that the Jewish people observe each year for the destruction of the Holy Temples in Jerusalem. The period starts on the 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz and ends on the 9th of the Hebrew month of Av and always falls in the summer. The 9th day of Av, which this year is July 26, is called Tisha B’Av and is the saddest day in the Jewish calendar. It was the day that both Holy Temples were set on fire.

In comparing the deal with Iran to the Munich Agreement between British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and Hitler in 1938, world-renowned lecturer Rabbi Lazer Brody wrote: “Now, 77 years later, during the notorious ‘Three Weeks’ between the 17th of Tammuz and Tisha B’Av, the USA has reaffirmed its commitment to hedonism by appeasing Iran and signing a nuclear agreement that is not worth the skin of a garlic clove.” (Emphasis added)

In an email dated July 16, 2015 and sent to his “Letter from Jerusalem” subscribers, Rabbi Avraham Greenbaum, Founder and Director of AZAMRA, an international organization that promotes Torah teachings to all nations, echoes Rabbi Brody’s thoughts about the timing.

He wrote, “The carefully choreographed timing of the announcement after so many delays could not have been more significant from the Jewish point of view, given that it fell on July 14 / 27 Tammuz, bang in the middle of the ‘Three Weeks’ period from the Fast of 17 Tammuz (4 July) until the Fast of Tisha B’Av (26 July), when we soul-searchingly contemplate our collective past, our present and our future destiny,”

Although the White House is attempting to push the agreement through the United Nations before Congress has had a chance to review the measure, there is another striking connection between the Iran nuclear deal and the Jewish calendar.

Regardless of what happens at the UN, the US Congress has 60 days to review and vote to either ratify or nix the nuclear deal. On the Jewish calendar, 60 days from the day the Iran nuclear deal was signed falls on Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. Thus, the final decision will likely be announced in the period between the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur known as the Ten Days of Repentance. [RB note: 60th day starting 14 July is 11th Sept; 60 day period ends 12th Sept which is also  Nitzavim, commemorating when Moses instructed the Israelites to stand before God to enter the Covenant. Its sundown starts the year’s final day 29 Elul; Rosh Hashana 5776 starts sundown 13th, into 15th Sept; Yom Kippur is 23rd Sept – calendar source.]

These are days of judgement for the Jewish people.

Speaking to the confluence of this decision and the Jewish calendar, End of Times author Rabbi Pinchas Winston told Breaking Israel News, “The [Talmud says] that all punishment comes to the world because of the Jewish people. Sometimes it means the Jewish people are not up to snuff, but other times it means that we did not care enough to use our spiritual gifts, such as Torah learning and prayer, to save a situation. When important decisions ‘hang in the air’ for a time, it is Heaven’s way of giving the Jewish people a chance to use those gifts to get history back on track. The fact that the Iran deal was made during the Three Weeks and will be decided on by Rosh Hashanah should make it clear where our responsibility lies. We don’t want this ‘punishment’ to occur and we certainly don’t want to be responsible for it.”

When questioned further, Rabbi Winston affirmed, “Now we have a chance to interfere with it [the nuclear deal] by praying and doing mitzvos [God’s commandments].”

Rabbi Nachman Kahana, an orthodox rabbinic scholar, offers comfort to believers who sense a connection between the Iranian nuclear deal and the End of Days. He cites the Yalkut Shimoni, a 16th century rabbinic commentary on the Bible, which describes the current situation prophetically.

“The Yalkut states that Paras (Persia-Iran) will be the dread of humanity. The world’s leaders will be frustrated in their futile efforts to save what they can. The people of Yisrael will also be petrified by the impending danger,” he wrote. “And HaShem [God] will say to us, ‘Why are you afraid? All of this I have done in order to bring you the awaited redemption. And this redemption will not be like the redemption from Egypt, which was followed by suffering. This redemption will be absolute, followed with peace.’”

Prophetic, Historic Days – Part 1: SIGNS and personal connections.

We are NOW at an exceptionally significant time in history – one where international events are being aligned with elements of biblical prophecy.

As the Lord Jesus Christ instructed His first and subsequent followers,

“Learn this parable from the fig tree: when you see its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near – at the doors!…

“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.

Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming – in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning – lest, coming suddenly, he finds you sleeping! And what I say to you, I say to all, ‘Watch!’.” (Mark 13:28-29, 33-37)

Serious students of prophecy will be well aware of scripture and be monitoring events but those who are new to such matters may like to know and learn more. Continue reading

Parliamentarians plead for global freedom of religion and belief

As ever Gillan Scott, deputy editor of Cranmer provides an excellent post on extremely detailed material and which I’ve copied in full from Archbishop Cranmer.  However, I do have very strong reservations over the authority accorded to the BBC by Lord Alton’s quotation.

Factual evidence of the BBC’s gross ignorance on religion and deliberately political slant on the Middle-east is all too readily available: eg. its pure pig-ignorance in an appallingly arrogant and clueless rebuke made last week to an Israeli minister, “But you’re not under threat by Iran”! AND they censored Iranian leader’s remark on supporting terror!! (Details and petition to BBC available at Honest Reporting; in-depth analysis of BBC coverage of Iran at BBC Watch.)

Perhaps BBC should be changed to BCC – British ‘Cloud Cuckoo-land’ ?

Credit for photo of Asia Bibi belongs to British Pakistani Christians, from whence Wilson Chowdry emails today that she’s, “…been granted leave to appeal her death sentence by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. There is still some serious legal process to follow before she can be acquitted, but this action is a serious step in the. right direction. Asia is in a much more hopeful position now but the process will be long and drawn out. Please continue to pray for her. By accepting her appeal the Court has inferred that there is a possibility for grounds for Asia being exonerated.” (In full with petition here.)

Gillan’s post reads as follows (click title for link):

House-Lords-Freedom-Religion

HOUSE OF LORDS PLEADS FOR THE FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND BELIEF

With a Conservative majority government in place for the next five years we won’t need to worry about any potential reforms to House of Lords for the time being. And perhaps that is a good thing. When considering the role of the UK government in promoting freedom of religion, it is doubtful that an elected Upper House would have brought us the same level of passion and knowledge as peers did when the subject was debated last week. It came as a response to Lord Alton’s motion: ‘That this House takes note of worldwide violations of Article 18 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the case for greater priority to be given by the United Kingdom and the international community to upholding freedom of religion and belief.’

AsiiaIt goes without saying that human rights abuses relating to religious persecution are widespread throughout the world and on the increase. Even today, Asia Bibi, who has been beaten and raped during her six years on death row in Pakistan, will have one last opportunity to plead for her life to be spared (updated above). Her crime, as a Christian, was drinking water from the same bowl as her Muslim co-workers. During the ensuing argument she was accused of blasphemy against the prophet Mohammad, which led to her arrest and conviction. There is an overwhelming need for governments across the free and democratic world to take a stand and defend the basic human right that Eleanor Roosevelt, chair of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights drafting committee, described as one of the four essential freedoms of mankind.

The Lords’ debate has been helpfully summarised by Frank Cranmer at the ever informative ‘Law and Religion’ blog, but several utterances deserve further attention. Lord Alton argued that in order for governments to reclaim their patrimony of Article 18, it would need greater political and diplomatic priority, and the importance of religious literacy as a competence could not be neglected. He went on to quote the BBC’s chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet, who said: “If you don’t understand religion — including the abuse of religion — it’s becoming ever harder to understand our world.” He then drew attention to the paucity of interest in the matter at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), with only one full-time desk officer dedicated to freedom of religion or belief.

Rabbi Lord Sacks described religious freedom as “perhaps the single greatest humanitarian issue of our time”. He was keen, though, to avoid rhetoric, preferring instead to look for pragmatic answers to avoid Article 18 being seen as little more than “a utopian ideal”. He proposed that the world needs:

“Under the auspices of the United Nations, a global gathering of religious leaders and thinkers to formulate an agreed set of principles that are sustainable theologically within their respective faiths and on which member nations can be called to account… We have not yet done the theological work for a global society in the information age, and not all religions in the world are yet fully part of that conversation. But if we neglect the theology, all else will fail… We must stand together – the people of all faiths and of none – for we are all at risk… Religious freedom is about our common humanity, and we must fight for it if we are not to lose it.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury was also keen to look for solutions:

“Religious freedom is threatened on a global scale, as we have heard, but also in a very complex way. Attacks on religious freedom are often linked to economic circumstances, to sociology, to history and to many other factors. Practically, if we are to defend religious liberty, we have to draw in these other factors. For example, if we want to defend religious freedom around the world – and again I say, the freedom to have no religion – do not sell guns to people who oppress religious freedom; do not launder their money; restrict trade with them; confine the way in which we deal with them; and, above, all, speak frankly and openly, naming them for what they are.”

After two and a half hours of speeches the motion was passed. Such a debate was significant in proving that Parliament has this issue on its mind and is making some positive noises. But without more substantive action from government, it will all count for very little. In their 2015 General Election manifestos, both Labour and the Liberal Democrats proposed the creation of a Global Ambassador for Religious Freedom to work within the FCO. It seemed a sensible proposal, but would that be the best way of ensuring that HM Government does not duck its responsibilities on the issue?

The newly created Centre on Religion and Global Affairs – a research and policy centre based in London, Beirut and Accra – has responded to the Lords’ debate. It believes that a special envoy that exclusively focuses on freedom of religious belief is not the way forward. Their view is that in other countries such appointments have yielded limited results. Instead, they propose the appointment a full-time Special Advisor to the government on Religion and Global Affairs. The advisor would be given a mandate to provide proactive policy proposals across Whitehall departments, in particular the FCO, Department for International Development, Home Office and the Prime Minister’s Office. Only a coordinated response across government departments will enable the UK to achieve the necessary understanding and enable a coherent and effective response to the issues. The role should not be seen as an interfaith outreach initiative, or a symbolic office for public diplomacy.

Alongside this Special Advisor, a group of external experts would be needed to provide additional support. A global portfolio in one of the most complicated topics in today’s world is not possible without adequate professional support. Given budgetary constraints, the role of the Special Advisor could be facilitated by the appointment of voluntary external experts with the requisite professional, academic and geo-political experience.

It is also important that any such position would be sufficiently funded if it is to be more than a symbolic gesture. Strategic research, diplomacy and local projects with stakeholders would need to be pursued with conviction and credible resources if any significant impact is to be made.

There is every reason to believe that the UK can contribute significantly to international moves to uphold freedom of religion – if it so chooses. During the Lords’ debate, Baroness Anelay, Minister of State in the FCO, admitted that although the Government is working with human rights and faith-based organisations across the world to promote dialogue, foster links and strengthen understanding, it is not doing enough.

As His Grace discussed yesterday, the Government needs to get a much better grip on its understanding of religion and religious freedoms. Religious persecution is a destructive cancer working its evil across the globe. How many more travesties of justice – such as that of Asia Bibi – do we have to endure before the British Government hears the appeal of those in the House of Lords (and elsewhere) that we must act as Justin Welby has prescribed: “..do not sell guns to people who oppress religious freedom; do not launder their money; restrict trade with them; confine the way in which we deal with them; and, above, all, speak frankly and openly, naming them for what they are.” Amen.
