The Remnant is awakening…! (GPS #59.1) — Dianne Marshall

Why would God’s people be referred to as a remnant? What is a remnant? I pondered this today and tried to understand it. I thought to compare a remnant from the entire woven bulk of cloth….. and thought, what is a remnant used for? Patching? Quilting? The last of something? What if it is the […continue reading at…] THE REMNANT IS AWAKENING… — THE MARSHALL REPORT
I recommend Dianne’s in-depth consideration of the scriptures, especially relating to a couple of blogs I’m hoping to post this week. In particular I like her stating:
“So in these days when we refer to God’s people as a remnant…what are we to understand by that label? Is it not in reference to a great falling away? A falling away that only a remnant are left? An abandoned few or what is left of what once was a larger sum of an original source of something? “

  1. When praying about The Remnant years ago I saw a square of the lovely shiny material taken from the blue and white striped area of a prayer shawl. It was frayed but pristine. Given the importance of the symbolism of the prayer shawl I believe this may be a clue as to ‘the remnant’

  2. My sense of how to identify the remnant comes largely from comparing Matthew 24:37-45 with 1 Thessalonians 4:15-19, and observing who gets left (ie remains). The King James version uses the word ‘remain’ instead of ‘left’ for 1 Thessalonians 4:17 (“Then we which are alive and REMAIN…”).

Matthew 24:37-45 says the end times will be like the days of Noah when many are living for this world, eating, drinking, being given in marriage and so on, when a flood came and took them all away. The only ones who remained still standing were Noah and his family, miraculously saved by the hand of God. In the same way two people will be out in a field and one will be taken while the other is left.

A common understanding of this passage is the one taken is ‘raptured’ while the one who’s left is abandoned by God to endure hell on earth. In fact, it’s the other way around. The ones taken get taken away by a flood of evil and the ones who remain are still standing in the righteousness of God.

Compare this with 1 Thessalonians 4:15-19 which says “We who are alive until the coming of the Lord will NOT precede those who have fallen asleep” (ie died in this world). But first will come the archangel and the dead in Christ will rise FIRST. Then AFTER THAT, we who are still alive and ARE LEFT (we who remain), will be caught up with them to meet the Lord in the air.

The remnant, therefore, are the ones who stand firm to the very end until the Lord comes again while everyone else is either swept away in a tide of evil, or dies in this world.
