When pressed on his plans to “Trump-proof” the city against potential federal cuts, Mamdani resorted to the tired playbook of tax hikes, proposing to slam the top 1% with steeper income taxes and jack up corporate rates from 7.25% to 11.5%. He claimed this would rake in $9 billion to fund his progressive agenda, but even Stephanopoulos, no Trump fan, pointed out the obvious risk; driving away job creators and businesses that thrived under Trump’s tax cuts. Mamdani’s stubborn doubling down only highlighted how out of touch leftists are with the real world success of Trump’s pro-growth policies, which kept New York humming before the Biden-Harris era’s chaos.

Adding fuel to the fire, reports from an intern on set revealed Mamdani’s post interview meltdown, where he branded Stephanopoulos a “stupid kuffār” and muttered that “these dumb kuffār will pay for their infidelity, praise Allah.” For those unfamiliar, “kuffār” is an Islamic term for non-believers, often carrying derogatory weight. This outburst not only raises eyebrows about Mamdani’s temperament but underscores the cultural divides that Trump’s unapologetic patriotism sought to bridge, contrasting sharply with the divisive rhetoric from the left that could alienate everyday New Yorkers.
