The all time record as of Friday for the number of people at the Iowa State Fairgrounds was 17,300.
President Donald J. Trump, nine months after he left office, shattered that record at his October 9, 2021 rally at the venue near Des Moines. Final official counts haven’t been released yet, but local law enforcement estimate the crowd easily exceeded 22,000.

Some in the audience had been camping there since Tuesday to ensure good views of the former president. During the day, prior to Trump’s arrival, a plane flew over the crowd with the waving sign behind it reading “Let’s Go Brandon.”
Trump tore into former vice president “Sleepy” Joe Biden and “nut job” Nancy Pelosi for their “socialist transformation bill, it’s an open borders bill, [and] it’s an American energy destruction bill.”
