Is God measuring the UK against His ‘Plumbline’?

During the Holy Spirit-filled worship in yesterday’s morning’s church service “Amos 7” was dropped into my mind.

So I silently asked, “Lord, do you mean Amos 3.7?” [Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets’]

“No, Amos 7:7!”

And so I opened my pocket NIV Bible to check and it reads:

This is what he showed me: the Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumbline in his hand.’

I read the rest to get it into context and afterwards mentioned this to the leaders for their weighing (we’re new there). Neither responded at the time so I’ve yet to learn of their reaction. Personally I sense it may apply to the United Kingdom. My Study Bible (NKJV) gives the fuller perspective (courtesy of BibleGateway):

Vision of the Plumb-Line

Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in His hand. And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”

And I said, “A plumb-line.”

Then the Lord said:

“Behold, I am setting a plumb-line
In the midst of My people Israel;
I will not pass by them anymore.
The [e]high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
And the [f]sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

Notes [e] and [f] read ‘Places of pagan worship’ and ‘Or holy places’ respectively.

As that historical occasion has passed then my impression is that the Lord is drawing it to my attention as being applicable to the state-of-play in Britain today.

Why? How can it be applied to the UK?

As a leading Christian nation that taught and preached the Gospel within and outside its borders then Britain has a special place in God’s purposes for mankind, rather similar to His ancient descendants of Abraham. Like Israel (Jacob) and Isaac, however, we too have gone seriously astray in not only setting up our own gods but also in widespread, deliberate rebellion against Him and His Word.

My Bible’s notes: v 7 – ‘…the plumb-line is symbolic. Israel (Britain) has been built ‘true’ to God’s standard; now she will be measured or tested by that same standard.’ V 8 – ‘Israel has been tested and found defective. The principle structures, the shrines and the dynasty will be torn down. The time of forgiveness has passed, judgement is approaching.  Amos has no opportunity to intercede for the people. Their fate is sealed.’

Therefore, I humbly submit to you my reader: can you weigh and test this with the Lord? How does it sit with your spirit?

  1. I was reading Hosea on the bus on the way home from work tonight, which has a similar feel to Amos, and I was thinking about Brexit at times as I read it. The thought occurred to me that just as the LORD accused the northern kingdom, Israel, of going like a harlot after Assyria and Egypt, instead of relying on Him, so the Remainers want us to treat the State (whether socialist version or otherwise) and Europe that way. The State and the EU and Progressivism are the Assyria and Egypt (or Sodom and Egypt if you prefer) of our day. I guess God wants to take everything away so that all we have left is Him. Job springs to mind: the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. We are dust and to dust we shall return. It is the Spirit that gives life.

  2. Yes, Richard. I have been weighing up a similar Word during the past few weeks. I sensed that God was saying to me that He is using our enemies to bring us to a place of humbling , He is resisting us through the choices we have made in order that we see what we have been doing in our law making that is still going from bad to worse in relation to abortion and sexual identity things so dear to the heart of GodŠstumbling the young children (which Jesus was fierce about) and making a mockery of marriage as it was meant to be. We were meant to be a leadership nation and are not reflecting God¹s ways to the rest of the world. We have been putting daggers into Our Creator’s heart and yet we have been given so much through the blood of the martyrsŠ freedom to read the Scriptures, to meet and to worship ..and turn the nation aroundŠŠ

Jer. 1:10 He is having to pull down before building up to fulfill all that is in His heart for this land still and is looking to bless our future. I think we are watching it take place right nowŠthe radical re-arranging. I sense that revival will come, but rather like in the Acts of Apostles it will be costly when the supernatural breaks out and christians in this land will need to recognise that not everybody will recognise or like it Š..but in the process of this the true kingdom will be revealed to confound all imitations of the GospelŠ.

  3. Richard, you know that I have specific difficulty with this interpretation, and adding this passage again I believe has a different application. The message speak of Father inserting His measure and standard to compare our stance to His. I would pose to you that this means that we need to consider our positions and actions compared to His purpose. The division of people of faith and characterising the EU as evil, forgets the fact that there are faithful Christians in these countries who do not understand the leaving mentality.
To say that Father has a special heart for the UK is also difficult, why do we believe this to be so, there is no scriptural evidence for this, just a wishful hope. Actually if we consider the Amos 7 passage in the light of history we will need to fall on our faces in repentance for the ills we have done across the ages in the name of the church, many of which remain the reason for anti-christian and anti- western views. Slavery and mass murder of ‘the heathens’ would be an interesting question to ask Father to place his plumbline against- we would not stand proud I believe- we have much to seek forgiveness for.
You know I am not sure about the ‘group-think’ words that simply support each other, and I am not going to quote scriptural passages to support specific utterances. Simply to say that my heart for the truth of Father’s purpose is genuine and questioning the trajectory of these ‘words’ leads me to ask/pray, Father, ‘Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’

    • Hi Chris, and “Amen” to your prayer. Delighted you’ve dropped by and accepted my invitation to weigh the verse and its relevance by referring to and hearing Holy Spirit carefully and honestly (as we’d expect of Jesus’ disciples).

You may be surprised I agree with you in the main and ask you to bear with my replying at length on a few points.:

When I was born-again I was blessed by the Lord dropping simple verse numbers into my mind, to the bewilderment of my ex-Brethren home group leader! So the same happened at our new church, as told above. In other words I rarely get a lengthy revelatory word or vision. My particular gifting recognised by leaders is that of ‘connecting the dots’; hence frequent blogs on God’s ‘GPS’ and invisible jigsaw.

Don’t agree re ‘division’ on EU because the faithful in other countries are not forgotten; eg. see https://richards-watch.org/2019/08/23/leisa-ebere-favour-to-the-nations-prophecy/

Wherever we live we’re governed by unbelievers and, thus, many inadvertently or deliberately get affected by the diabolical, spiritual realms. Regrettably, what began 60-odd years as a noble, Catholic-influenced endeavour ago has turned away from God.

My post doesn’t refer to UK’s place in God’s heart but within His Kingdom plans for the nations. A concrete example of this, despite our persecution of His Jewish people over the centuries, is our political decision to help them get back to their historical homeland. But then we reneged upon the Balfour Declaration and actively prevented them getting there, even imprisoning them in detention camps!

That’s one of those many acts of necessary repentance you mention. Btw a dear friend of ours is very active in reconciliation ministry, for example, recently in churches in Cork.

Nevertheless and as implied in the blog, scripturally we’ve complied with Jesus’ command to go unto all nations and teach the gospel, have we not?

Also scripturally, consider possible links to ancient Israel posited in https://richards-watch.org/2016/11/17/a-biblical-basis-for-brexit/ (and supported by new researches into Britain at the times of legendary king Arthur), https://richards-watch.org/eu-v-brexit/our-christian-heritage-in-church-and-state/ and this briefing by the head of Ellel Ministries, https://richards-watch.org/eu-v-brexit/annex-g-what-does-scripture-say-on-alliances/ (I was disappointed Yinka didn’t cover such scriptural aspects.)

[PS I notice upon re-reading the last that Peter’s attention was drawn to ungodly king Jehoshaphat, as with Amos – another ‘God-incidental’ confirmation]

There’s also the Glastonbury legend of boy Jesus coming here with his uncle Joseph of Arimathea, who later provided Jesus’ burial place!

Most personally convincing, however, is what I shared at the foot of Yinka’s video. If you’ve yet to experience Holy Spirit’s weighty presence you may not be able to appreciate the impact of seeing supernatural text in large letters scrolling in front of your TV screen that says ‘This is My country’!! I’d encourage you to read the full account and about its double confirmation, as in and via the closing section of https://richards-watch.org/2019/08/29/passion-for-the-nations-decree-and-declaration-over-parliament/

I understand your point about ‘group think’ and its something we do need to be aware of as it’s all to easy to assume we have a handle on what God’s doing, but His thoughts are far above ours, plus ‘He moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform’.

  4. Neville Johnston was right in his NewZealand comments a few years ago about the governments who oppose Israel will go.This happened in NZ. With the National government who supported the UN resolution against East Jerusalem and the West Bank. They later retracted it and had regrets, but a Coalition came in, now promoting liberal abortion, euthanasia, cannabis legilisation, you name it. It opened the portals for the enemy..

  5. Just musing about the concept of evil and the EU. It should have been straightforward to put a reasonable deal in place but a group of people and it now seems working from both sides have done their utmost to overturn a democratic mandate. I am not sure where things will end up but dark forces at work around the world.

You are spot-on my friend! I witness with your word on Amos 7.7 and the Hand of God coming upon the UK. It is in line with everything else like scarifying and cleansing. The word about “Crisis” also is in parallel here.

    Well done Richard

  7. From Rick Davis (My personal Facebook 9.9.19 @20:00 approx)

Yes. There have been other words recently about a plumbline measuring the plumb, as well as scales weighing the UK, in all aspects of life. I don’t know about not having time to intercede for the UK and these Isles. Since we already had a warning to pray for it, we may have had the time — I don’t know about that. But the rest of the application you have made is in complete agreement with these other words.
One thing — I don’t think the wall built to the plumb-line represents the UK now because the plumb-line is definitely the focus here. God is definitely putting a plumb-line to measure the UK’s rightness with His will and Word.

Last Thursday Rick also sent a direct message “Concerning the plumbline word you just posted about, I posted in the PRUKR Community group what the LORD gave my wife recently concerning this type of thing… It’s the first of its kind Ali has received, and He has ushered her into a new level in this sort of thing in Him. It’s very exciting for her and for me. Probably for our LORD, as well.”

He posted on that group Fb 4.9.19 >

As I was praying this morning, my wife, Ali, was also praying in another room, and was strongly led to pray for what was going on in our government. The scriptures she was led to pray around were:

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.” (Proverbs 21:2)

“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit.” (Proverbs 16:2)

“Everyone who is arrogant in his heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured he will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 16:5)

She saw the LORD over Parliament, and also saw large scales, and her understanding was that He was going through government and weighing the hearts of those in government.

What she then heard was, “Enough is enough! I will have My way, and man will not get in the way. I will show/reveal My Glory, power and strength in this nation. Men are but grass. I am bringing down the schemes of men, men who think they know it all, but are only wise in their own eyes. They have selfish evil agendas, only, in mind. Those men/women I will humble and dethrone. I shall raise up the humble in heart. Victory is Mine, and the plans of man will not stand in My way. I will set up a Godly God-fearing government. I will be known. My Name will be greatly praised in this land once again.”

Her sense was that there was not to be fear in this of what might happen, but that God would have His way. God is VERY MUCH in control.

  8. From Deborah Stevens Orgill (My personal Facebook 9.9.19 @22:00 approx)

Just read the exert below by Eric Arnold then read this post……. God’s Plumbline is Vindicated Truth

God interprets his own word by bringing it to pass. When God vindicates a doctrine, like pentecostal truth or holiness & healing, with worldwide revivals then that doctrine then becomes “essential doctrine.”

Perhaps it’s not essential for salvation but it is essential to be an overcomer. When God causes nations to align in exact fulfillment of millennia old prophecies then he has just dropped a plumbline into human history and we are required to accept it. Beginning with “the just shall live by faith” & then the sanctification truths preached by Wesley & proceeding forward in history, there are truths that God has very intentionally lined up for a specific purpose in his unfolding will. It is up to each individual believer to know what time it is in history and what God himself has vindicated as absolute.

It is all of these truths, “every word proceeding,” that are necessary for the perfecting of the bride. We should have no use for a unity movement based on the lowest common denominator. Our ideas of what does and does not constitute essential doctrine are absolutely unimportant. The church nominal is destined to continue on listening & obeying what sounds good or what best appeals to her intellect.

The bride, at the end of the age, will be given the grace to identify that which is the vindicated word, the true plumbline revelation of Christ, and that which isn’t.

  9. From ‘HH’ (email 10-9.19 @ 09:45)

Re your word from the Lord on Sunday.

In our church in Bath the sermon was on Habakkuk. This is broadly the same message as the one from God in Amos. That we petition God but ultimately He is sovereign and has decided. Yesterday I decided to listen to this word from Jacob Prasch on Habakkuk, that I’ve sent to you. However, it is not a sermon but what he felt God gave him regarding UK. It’s basically saying exactly the same thing as you.

I felt God gave me a picture and sign “fire exit” for Brexit in 2018 and so I still hope we will come out of the EU. But I pray for Boris and God’s will, rather than telling God what to do!!!

Very sobering times. But thankfully God is not like a man. We can completely trust Him.

Really appreciate your Watch and esp that you weigh what is sent and are brave enough to show prophecies that are wrong and haven’t transpired.

Unfortunately, I personally think you did hear correctly, as did Prasch and that was some time ago.

  10. Richard – your word from Amos sits uncomfortably well with God’s injunction to Jeremiah – “Do not pray for these people”. This is such a hard Scripture – surely we should be able to pray for anyone! However I think in the context it is a warning to us to make sure that our intercession is led by God rather than by our (soulish) hopes that good times are just around the corner. Sometimes all we can do is wait on God in silence. I am not saying that things will never get better (until our Messiah returns), but that the Lord will reveal his purposes to us one step at a time.
